FreeRice is a lovely little vocabulary game. For each correctly chosen synonym, FreeRice donates 20 grains of rice to the UN World Food Program. The funding comes from advertising, I believe.

Certain cultures believe that, through cannibalism, a person can acquire the skills and attributes of the deceased. Hopefully an act of figurative cannibalism will bring about the same results.
Past attempts, however, have unfortunately proved ineffective.
The Mechanical Turk

The Turk was an ingenious chess-playing “machine” devised in 1770 by Wolfgang von Kempelen. A really wonderful description of it can be found here.
The modern-day equivalent is Amazon’s Mechanical Turk, which uses people to perform simple tasks of object recognition.
There’s something really fascinating about fake AI…

The indigo bunting is a rather lovely bird which is native to most of the States, especially the East Coast. It has beautiful plumage.
